Castelli's 2026 Hot Weather collection splits hot-day kit into two camps - featherweight tops built purely for airflow, and UPF 50+ pieces designed to actually keep the sun off - with prices running from £125 (~R2 700) to £250 (~R5 400).
Three pillars, two philosophies
Castelli says every piece in the 2026 Hot Weather line was engineered against three goals: maximise airflow, speed up sweat evaporation, and add ultraviolet protection. The interesting part is that no single garment does all three equally - so the collection effectively splits into two philosophies.
On one side sit the ultra-light, ultra-breathable pieces like the Climber's A/C Jersey and Superleggera Bibshort, where the priority is moving air and shedding grams. On the other side sit the dedicated UPF pieces, which trade a little breathability for genuine head-to-toe sun cover. Knowing which camp you're shopping in is the whole game here.

The UPF catch: keep cool, or stay covered
Here's the nuance the spec sheet hides. Castelli's headline piece, the Climber's A/C Jersey, carries only UPF 13 - and that rating applies to the denser Strada Pro 3D back panel. The Flusso 3D front and side panels are a near-transparent cooling mesh that, by design, lets a lot through. Castelli's own brand manager frames UPF 13 as blocking roughly 92% of UV, versus over 98% for the UPF 50+ pieces.
So if your real problem is heat, the Climber's A/C and Superleggera are superb. If your real problem is a SA midday sun that leaves you red after a three-hour ride, the dedicated UPF Jersey (UPF 50+, short or long sleeve) and the UPF arm/knee/leg sleeves are the pieces that actually have your back - literally.
“Summer means different things for cyclists, but the most common themes are keeping cool and being protected from the sun.”

The honest balance sheet
- Featherweight: Climber's A/C at 124g, Superleggera bibs at 158g (claimed up to 50% lighter)
- Class-leading airflow on the mesh-front pieces, repeatedly praised by testers
- A real UPF 50+ option (jersey + sleeves) for riders who actually burn
- CFD-optimised panel placement and seam construction for aero efficiency
- Men's (XS-3XL) and women's (XS-XL) cuts across most pieces
- Wide heat window, rated up to 40°C / 104°F
- The flagship Climber's A/C is only UPF 13 (~92%) - easy to mistake for full sun protection
- Ultra-sheer fabric 'leaves nothing to the imagination' and needs a thin base layer
- Premium pricing - the Superleggera Bibshort is £225 (~R4 900) / US$250 (~R4 100)
- Narrow use case: built for real heat, overkill on cool or shaded rides
- Sun protection and maximum airflow are split across different garments, not combined

Buyer questions, answered
Does the Climber's A/C Jersey actually stop sunburn? +
Only partly. Its UPF 13 rating (about 92% of UV) applies to the denser back panel; the mesh front is near-transparent and lets a lot through. Reviewers have burned through thin Climber's fabric, so wear sunscreen - or pick the UPF Jersey (UPF 50+, ~98%) for full cover.
What's the difference between the UPF Jersey and the Climber's A/C? +
The Climber's A/C chases airflow and grams (race fit, mesh front, 124g). The UPF Jersey trades a little breathability for UPF 50+ protection across the whole garment in a tailored fit, in short or long sleeve.
How hot does it need to be to wear this stuff? +
Castelli rates the jerseys roughly 20-40°C (68-104°F) and the bibshorts similarly. Below about 20°C you'll feel cold - this is dedicated high-summer kit, ideal for SA Highveld and coastal midday rides.
Is there a women's range? +
Yes. Most pieces come in men's (XS-3XL) and women's (XS-XL) cuts with their own colourways, and the women's versions are slightly lighter (e.g. 116g for the Climber's A/C).
How much does it cost, and is it sold in South Africa? +
UK RRPs run £125 (~R2 700)-£250 (~R5 400) (about €120 (~R2 300)-€220 (~R4 100) / US$155 (~R2 600)-$250 (~R4 100)). Castelli is distributed in SA, but local pricing varies with import duties and the rand - use the live price finder above for current ZAR listings.

Castelli's 2026 Hot Weather range is one of the most thoughtful summer line-ups going - but only if you buy with eyes open. The Climber's A/C Jersey and Superleggera Bibshort are about cooling and weight, and on that score testers rave. The UPF Jersey and sleeves are the ones that genuinely keep the sun off. Pick the half that solves your problem, keep sunscreen handy for the breathable pieces, and budget for premium pricing. For SA summers, that's a smart - if not cheap - way to ride cooler.
