Wilier's new Rapida brings the brand's superbike aero looks, a modern 36mm-clearance frame and a fully integrated cockpit to road cycling's most fiercely contested price point — from €2,899 (~R54 400).
A superbike look, at a real-world price
Wilier Triestina built its modern reputation on premium superbikes like the Filante SLR and Zero SLR. The Rapida takes that same visual language — sculpted, aero, unmistakably Italian — and drops it into the brand's most accessible road frame yet.
It is pitched as the entry point to Wilier's road range, with two Shimano 105 builds and a price that starts well below the racing norm. Crucially, Wilier hasn't stripped out the modern essentials to hit that number: full cable integration, a UDH dropout and 36mm tyre clearance all make the cut.
Wilier Rapida by the numbers

Aero borrowed from the top shelf: the NACA frame
The frame, fork and seatpost are shaped with NACA airfoil profiles — the same aerodynamics-first tube philosophy Wilier uses higher up the range — joined by a deep, sculpted head tube, a wide-bladed fork, dropped seatstays and a rear-wheel cutout in the aero seat tube. Cabling is fully internal, routed through a one-piece Z-Bar monocoque carbon cockpit for a clean front end.
Two details make it genuinely future-proof. A UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) dropout means SRAM's Full Mount transmissions bolt straight on, and a removable front-derailleur mount lets you convert to a tidy 1x build. The bottom bracket is a PressFit 86.5mm standard, and road.cc frames the Rapida as more of an everyday bike than a race weapon.
Geometry: race DNA, endurance manners
Geometry sits, by Wilier's own description, exactly halfway between its long-and-low race bikes and its endurance range. In size M that means a 384.5mm reach and 556mm stack (a 1.45 stack-to-reach ratio) — sporty, but sustainable for long days. The chainstays stay short at 412mm despite the big tyre clearance, preserving snappy acceleration.
The numbers tell the story against Wilier's flagship: in size XL the Rapida's stack is 592mm versus the Filante SLR's 571mm, while reach is almost identical (396mm vs 395mm). Same front-centre reach, 21mm more height — a slightly more upright, comfort-friendly cockpit on the same racy footprint.

Read the full reviewThe case for and against
- Superbike aesthetics and NACA aero tubes at an access-level price
- 36mm tyre clearance fits modern fast rubber such as the GP5000 S TR
- UDH dropout plus removable front-mech mount: 1x/2x and SRAM-transmission ready
- Full cable integration and a one-piece Z-Bar cockpit, usually reserved for pricier bikes
- Balanced race/endurance geometry with short 412mm chainstays
- Claimed 8.6-8.8kg is sensible rather than light for the class
- Only Shimano 105 builds at launch — nothing below, nothing above
- PressFit 86.5mm BB divides opinion versus a threaded shell
- Alloy Miche Reflex DX wheels on the base build are a likely first upgrade
- No independent lab or ride testing yet — this is a launch, not a long-term review
On paper, one of the most compelling 'first aero bike' packages of 2026 — modern, handsome and sensibly priced. Subject to confirmation once it has been ridden and weighed independently.

Wilier Rapida: your questions
How much does the Wilier Rapida cost? +
At launch the mechanical Shimano 105 build is €2,899 (~R54 400) (£2,999 (~R65 300) in the UK) and the 105 Di2 build is €3,999 (~R75 000) (£3,499 (~R76 100) in the UK). South African retail varies with import and exchange rates — see the live price tracker above for local listings.
Is the Rapida an aero bike or an endurance bike? +
Both, deliberately. It uses NACA aero tube profiles like Wilier's race bikes but with geometry pitched halfway to an endurance bike and 36mm tyre clearance, so it leans fast-yet-comfortable rather than pure race.
What is the biggest tyre I can fit? +
Up to 36mm, which covers modern wide-fast tyres such as the Continental GP5000 S TR. The base build ships on 32mm Vittoria Zaffiro Pro rubber.
Can I run a 1x drivetrain or a SRAM transmission? +
Yes. The frame has a UDH dropout (SRAM Full Mount compatible) and a removable front-derailleur mount, so it can be built as a clean 1x or a conventional 2x.
How much does it weigh? +
Wilier's claimed figures are 8.8kg for the 105 mechanical build and 8.6kg for the 105 Di2 build; actual weight depends on size and final spec.

The Wilier Rapida is a smart read of where road cycling is heading: superbike looks, full integration, big tyre clearance and a UDH frame, all at a price that starts under €3,000 (~R56 300). It won't be the lightest bike in its class, and at launch you only get two Shimano 105 builds, but as a first proper aero road bike it is hard to argue with. Reserve final judgement until it has been ridden and weighed independently — then watch the tracker above for South African pricing.
